I've decided to attempt to create a list of three things that interest me in a specific field each Thursday. This is mainly to try and keep me motivated with updating the blog, but I also hope it will bring some useful or interesting things to your attention.
This week, and the first installment of Three Things Thursday, I am going to list some pen & paper RPGs that you may not have heard of. Chances are that if you are into RPGs you have heard of one or two of them... But I hope I can at least show you one new game. :-)
Now, I know that there are a lot of people out there that have played D&D and consider themselves RPG payers. I guess that's true, but if you've only ever played D&D, then you may not realize that there is actually a whole variety of very diverse and interesting RPGs you could be playing. I'm not just talking diversities pertaining to settings, worlds, and genres (even thought that is true also). I'm talking about games with systems which are very different to the d20 system. So different that when you play some of these games, you'll find yourself spending more time playing the roles of your characters and proceeding through stories than in a D&D campaign. Alternatively, you may find you get to spend more time in combat and just having fun with the action side of the games.
Yes, there is a whole world of different RPGs out there. I know it's not news to some people, but I'd like to think that there are some D&D players out there who will see this and step outside what they know and discover something new and exciting. Read more
